Bournemouth University attended our previous Chatham House event as a delegate. On 27 October, it returns as a contributor to share where it is on its AI transformation journey, what it is doing and why it chose to act.

That change in perspective is at the heart of From Plan to Proof: The AI Transformation Journey, One Year On, an in-person event hosted at Nottingham Trent University. ICS.AI is bringing together university and further education college CFOs, COOs and invited senior colleagues for a practical conversation about moving AI transformation forward.

What happens after an institution decides to act

For leaders considering AI, the questions extend beyond what the technology can do. How does an institution decide where to start? What gives its board confidence to proceed? How can it build the capacity to deliver change while managing the demands of day-to-day operations?

Tom Ormerod, Director of IT and Digital Solutions at Bournemouth University, will share the university’s perspective on its journey so far. Hearing from an institution working through these decisions offers peers an opportunity to ask questions about the choices behind the programme and consider what those choices could mean in their own setting.

A conversation about institutional priorities

The discussion will explore how AI can support new income, institutional capacity and resilience alongside savings and efficiencies. It will also examine the barriers that can prevent institutions from moving forward, including AI scepticism, board confidence, governance, adoption and concerns about data.

For finance and operations leaders, the aim is to connect these questions to institutional priorities: where change could create value, what needs to be in place to support delivery, and how to judge a sensible next step.

Participants will be able to put their questions directly to the contributors, exchange experiences with peers and continue the conversation over a networking lunch.
